독일 베를린 음대에서 윤이상 선생님 밑에서 작곡을 공부한 일본인 작곡가 토시오 호소카와의 곡

"승화/Sublimation"을 퀸 엘리자베스 콩쿠르에서 한국 출신 첼리스트 이정현이 연주하다 첼로 줄을

끊어 먹는 사고가 발생했다. 그러나 그녀는 당황하지 않았다.


다시 기어이 연주를 성공적으로 맞출수 있었다.

Korean cellist JeongHyoun “Christine” Lee strives to bring poetic and magical experiences to the

audience through music. She regards herself as an “in-progress” musician and a passionate music

lover. Recent engagements range from solo recitals in New York City and masterclasses at Kronberg

Academy (Frankfurt), London Master Classes, and IMS Prussia Cove (Cornwall), to collaborative

contemporary premieres with Eighth Blackbird and Juilliard’s AXIOM.


Ms. Lee has appeared as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra,

Korean Broadcasting (KBS) Symphony Orchestra, and Calgary Symphony and as a recitalist in Seoul,

Philadelphia, and New York. In the 2015-16 season, Ms. Lee will make her European recital debut

at the Musée du Louvre.


Most recently, she was a prizewinner at the Schoenfeld International String Competition. Other awards

include the Prix Musique De Chambre from Écoles d’Art Americaines de Fontainebleau, which led to

an invitation to perform at the Harvard Club of New York City. She was also awarded second prize

at the Johansen International String Competition in 2007.


Ms. Lee’s enjoyment for chamber music has led to festival appearances at Music@Menlo (CA), Seiji

Ozawa Academy (Rolle), Music from Angel Fire (NM), Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts (NY),

as well as collaborations with Roberto Diaz, Pamela Frank, Gary Graffman, Frans Helmerson, Nobuko

Imai, Kim Kashkashian, Ida Kavafian, and members of the Guarnieri and Orion String Quartets.


She has performed in concerts presented by The New School: Schneider Concerts, Curtis 20/21

Ensemble, and has made appearances at Columbia University’s Miller Theater, Alice Tully Hall,

Kimmel Center’s Perelman Theater, Library of Congress, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and Victoria

Hall. In 2010, she made her first European tour with “Curtis on Tour,” as well as an Asian tour with

Mark Russell Smith the following year. Her performances have been featured on WQXR’s McGraw-Hill

Financial Young Artists, WHYY “On Stage at Curtis”, and American Public Media’s “Performance Today.”


Originally from Seoul, Korea, Ms. Lee has studied with Orlando Cole, Peter Wiley, and Carter Brey

at the Curtis Institute of Music with a Bachelor of Music and with Joel Krosnick at The Juilliard School.


This performance marks JeongHyoun “Christine” Lee’s La Jolla Music Society debut.
